HRITHRIK ROSHAN in Mohenjo Daro, directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar. reviewed by Surabhi Redkar for Koimoi He *despises* it! 1.5 from 5 (= 3/10) "Might as well be set in Bombay 2016." That way Shiv Sena would destroy it for not calling it Mumbai. D not bothering to link this to the Upcoming Films Thread. PS Friday morning it was being beaten by Rustom, 40% to 25%.

Slow start, but gaining.
Fri 8.75, Sat 9.5, but then Sunday 12 and Monday 10 so not doomed yet, though well behind Rustom.

First week earned 50 crore - DISAPPOINTMENT. Hrithrik's fourth-best First Week, but a lot closer to his 5th best (ZNMD 44.7) than 3rd (Agnepath 81.4). In fact, closer to his Tenth-best than to his Third! Hrithrik is now a less-reliable Star than Akshay Kumar, even though his two top films are way ahead - first weekends over 100 crore. Akshay has not yet had a first weekend over 90 crore, but had six over 60. D Slow start, but gaining. Fri 8.75, Sat 9.5, but then Sunday 12 and Monday 10 so not doomed yet, though well behind Rustom. I quite liked Mohenjo Daro. Not great, and I've never really been very much into Hrithik, but it was entirely watchable, and what else does a movie really need to be besides that? Also, very few of these movies get shown in my local cinema, so one takes what one can get. True enough that it didn't feel particularly like an ancient world and could have been set any time within the past couple of millennia, right up to the present day, but I'm going to be charitable (or clutch for straws) and say that that's a nod to the anachronistic technology stories that have become attached to Mohenjo Daro over the years.
